The sequence of these nine characteristic miniatures is intended to provide contrast. They are not quite literal translations of the piano originals. My aim was to adapt these pieces to the specific colors, possibilities and sonorities of a cello quartet, while retaining a charming simplicity. The first cello part is the most demanding, with the others providing an easy-to-play accompaniment. For the best effect, I suggest that a different player takes the leading part in each miniature.
