Bach the immortal god of harmony. -Ludwig van Beethoven, 1801
Though it was written as a movement for the D-Major Orchestral Suite, the Air
is one of Bach's most well-known and beloved stand-alone pieces, and an
exquisite example of 4-part writing. It has one of the greatest
melodies ever written, a masterful weaving of the middle voices, and a
bass line that walks the music irresistibly forwards.
