The cello part for the overture to Berlioz's Benvenuto Cellini, Op. 23 has been edited by Frank Miller, former principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years. Miller's bowings, fingerings and other editorial markings have been added throughout the score.
Benvenuto Cellini was the first of Berlioz's operas. The story is loosely based on the memoirs of the Florentine sculptor Benvenuto Cellini. As a whole, the opera is technically very challenging and rarely performed. However, the overture to the opera sometimes features in symphony orchestra programs
